Code of Ethics for IOWWA
Certified Installers
A long time goal of the Iowa Onsite Waste Water Association (IOWWA) has
been to promote and offer certification to members. The primary purpose
of the certification is to set a standard of practice and create a
baseline of knowledge for onsite wastewater system installations.
Counties throughout the state of Iowa are encouraged to adopt
regulations providing for licensing of installers and to require
certification through IOWWA. Obtaining the CIOWTS and IOWWA
certification is a significant personal accomplishment and it also can
give the applicant an edge over the competition by showing a commitment
to maintaining a higher standard of professionalism.
IOWWA has entered into an agreement with the National Environmental
Health Association (NEHA) to use its Certified Installer of Onsite
Wastewater Treatment Systems (CIOWTS) exam as a base for offering IOWWA
installer certification to its members.
Persons desiring to take the exam must apply to NEHA. IOWWA will sponsor
the exam at its annual conference or at other times as the need arises.
There are two levels of certification that can be achieved - basic and
advanced. Applicants must achieve a minimum test score of 70%.
Exam Fee (Payable to NEHA) *
Basic $95 IOWWA Members
$110 Non Members
Advanced $110 IOWWA Members
$130 Non Members
* Exam fees are payable to NEHA at time of application for exam.
(For the exam member rate you must be a member of NEHA or NOWRA. All
IOWWA members are members of NOWRA)
Upon successful completion of the exam applicants may apply to IOWWA for
certification as an installer of onsite wastewater treatment systems by
submitting the application and code of ethics forms posted above. In
order to maintain their IOWWA certification, applicants must complete of
a minimum of 18 contact hours (clock time) of continuing education. This
education must be provided by or approved by IOWWA.
Certification Fee (Payable to IOWWA)
$50 IOWWA Members
$75 Non Members
The annual certification fee includes listing as certified installer on
IOWWA’s web site, wallet card, certificate, and updating the list of
IOWWA certified installers.
