CERTIFIED INSTALLER OF ONSITE WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS (CIOWTS) TEST

Thursday, March 26 Test check-in from 1:00 – 1:15 PM, instructions at 1:15 PM
Test will start at 1:30 PM – Basic (2-hour time limit)
Please be sure to bring a small hand-held calculator and two #2 pencils.

TEST - Certified Installer of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (CIOWTS) Credential
The completed application must be submitted prior to March 17th, 2026. A confirmation will be sent via email approximately one (1) week prior to the test date. The counties in Iowa that require the CIOWTS credential use the Basic Level. If you report to the test location after the exam start time, admission to the exam is not guaranteed and all examination fees will be forfeited. If a no-show, no refund is given for the test fee.
NOTE: If less than one (1) year of onsite wastewater installation experience, completion of the Installation Overview Course is required.

* CIOWTS Test fees are based on membership in IOWWA. *If you are not a current member, you can join IOWWA at www.iowwa.com/pages/membershipapplication. Membership is not the same as the CIOWTS credential. Membership is yearly and is optional. Joining now will provide IOWWA membership for the 2026 IOWWA membership year.
Notes for completing the CIOWTS Test Application:
- Your CIOWTS test application MUST be submitted to IOWWA before March 17th, 2026. NOTE: If less than one year experience, completion of the Installation Overview Course is required.
- The CIOWTS Test Application can be downloaded at www.iowwa.com/pages/certification
- “Work Experience Verification” is required for the Advanced test only.
Study Guide “Installation of Wastewater Treatment Systems” - this can be purchased in advance of the test. If interested, it is available for purchase at Iowa State Univ.
